So you’ve looked into Medigap but it’s too expensive. Don’t worry there are 3 options for you.
Options to Traditional Medigap
If you have found that the monthly premium for a Medigap plan, AKA Medicare Supplemental Insurance, is out of reach for but you still want more coverage than Original Medicare offers, these are your options:
- Medicare Advantage replaces Medicare. MA plans must cover everything that the fed program covers, however with a smaller network in exchange for additional benefits like dental, vision, and Rx. This usually makes your premium less than a Medicare premium.
- Medigap Plan High Deductible F offers the comprehensive coverage of the most popular Medigap Plan F, allows you to maintain Medicare’s largest nationwide network of doctors and hospitals, and all the while keeping your monthly premium much very low. The way they do this is by having a (roughly) $2000 deductible. The monthly savings are often worth it.
- Medigap SELECT offers the “fill-in-the-gaps” coverage of traditional Medigap, but within a PPO-like network, therefore lowering your monthly premium
