Original Medicare (Part A & B) is the foundation to senior healthcare, but without the walls and roof, the foundation is just a slab of concrete. The walls and roof are Medicare Supplement plans (Medigap) and prescription drug coverage (Part D).
What is Medigap?
Medigap is medical insurance purchased in conjunction with Medicare Part A and Part B. It is a federally regulated insurance, therefore each Plan A, B, G, etc. are equal to any other provider’s plans. For these reasons, it’s simple to examine and compare Medigap plans.
What’s the Purpose of Medigap?
Medigap’s purpose is help Medicare beneficiaries limit their out-of-pocket exposure. It literally can save you hundreds of thousands of dollars in expenses. To learn how you can save money with Medigap read the article Can’t Afford Medigap G? Think Again.
Which Medicare Supplemental Plan should I purchase?
This depends on your personal budget. The majority of our clients enroll in Medigap Plan G. The reason for this landslide of enrollment in Plan G is it covers all Medicare Part A & B costs but one, your one-time annual Part B deductible. If this isn’t in the price range, we recommend choosing Medigap Plan G High Deductible or Medigap Plan N. With both these plans, you save more money per month, but could pay more out-of-pocket if you were seriously injured or ill.

What about Prescription Drugs?
This will probably come as a surprise. Neither Medicare nor Medigap cover prescriptions. As you know, purchasing prescription drugs without insurance can be extremely costly.
It is important to note that each Part D drug plan has its own formulary (list of drugs it covers) and preferred pharmacies. By comparing Part D plans, you’ll find which is the right plan for your needs. For further assistance in finding the right drug plan, use these “how to” link below:
