Enroll in Medigap
There is a very specific time to enroll in a Medigap plan. This six-month period, known as your initial open enrollment, begins the month you turn 65 and are eligible for Medicare Part B. During this type Medigap plans must offer you guaranteed issuance regardless of preexisting conditions. If you wait to enroll, coverage may be denied or may have to pay significantly more, this type of coverage is called Standard Medigap.
There is also a Medigap Special Enrollment Period for when you have a life changing event that allows you to enroll in Medigap without medical underwriting.
