Medigap plans in Utah work the same way as they do in 46 other states. Utah has only one main Medigap enrollment period. Medigap, also known as Medicare Supplement, is a type of private health insurance designed to help cover the out-of-pocket costs that are not covered by Original Medicare (Part A and Part B).
How does Medigap work in Utah?
In Utah, there are 10 standardized Medigap plans available, labeled with letters A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M, and N. Each plan offers different benefits and covers different portions of the cost-sharing expenses that Medicare beneficiaries would otherwise be responsible for paying themselves.
Private insurance companies sell Medigap plans in Utah, and not the government directly. The cost and availability of Medigap plans may vary depending on the insurance company and the area in which you live. You can get a comparison quote here!

When should you enroll in a Utah Medigap plan?
You can enroll in a Utah Medigap plan during the initial enrollment period, which starts on the first day of the month you turn 65 and have enrolled in Medicare Part B. You also have a six-month open enrollment period during which you can enroll in any Medigap plan offered in Utah without medical underwriting. Switching Medigap Plans in Utah
The AEP Open Enrollment from October 15 to December 7 doesn’t apply to Medigap in your state. If you’re enrolled in Medigap and want to switch plans, you can do so at any time. But be aware that you might need to go through another evaluation and answer around 20 health questions before the new plan is approved. This is often referred to as “medical underwriting”.
Based on your answers, your rate may vary, or you could be declined for certain conditions.
