What is Medicare Advantage?
It’s basically just an alternative to Original Medicare. It offers a few more things like Part D, one monthly premium, and is generally equal medical and hospital coverage to Medicare. It has a smaller, local network, but can still leaves gaps in coverage. If you have a little extra money you might want to get a Medicare, Medigap, and Rx combo to have the best coverage.
Part D Rules
Medicare drug plans may require the following rules:
- Certain prescriptions require prior authorization
- There are limits on how much medication you are able to have filled at one time.
- If there is a lower tiered drug similar to the drug prescribed you must use that one, and if it doesn’t work as well you can move up.
Three Things You Need to Bring to the Pharmacy
Once you have decided on your plan, it’s been mailed out to you, what do you do now? It’s simple. Bring these 3 things:
- Your red, white, and blue Medicare card
- A photo ID (like a state driver’s license or passport)
- Your plan membership card
